Our vision |
---|
The Governors and Staff at Camden School for Girls are committed to the inclusion of students with special educational needs in the full life of the school, with equal access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
We will provide the support, encouragement and exceptional teaching that our students need to participate and make progress to achieve their full potential, and to make a successful transition to adulthood. We work closely with parents and carers to achieve this vision.
What we do |
---|
Our support for SEND students centres around high quality teaching in the classroom and strong communication between teachers, learning support assistants, SENDCo, parents, pastoral staff and the students themselves which allows us to develop a deep and holistic understanding of a student's particular needs.
We believe that the classroom is the best place for students to learn and our teaching staff are highly trained and able to devise subject specific interventions where needed. We use a graduated approach that is highly personalised for each student through discussions with them and their parents/carers. Every student’s progress is monitored throughout the year to ensure they make good progress and changes to support are made as necessary.
At KS4, students may also be assessed for Access Arrangements that are implemented to allow candidates with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access the assessment without disadvantage.
In exceptional cases 1:1 and small group intervention will be needed to respond to a young person’s needs. We provide tailored interventions for numeracy and literacy as well as confidence building, resilience, emotional regulation, speech and language and art therapy.
We also have a team of external professionals including Educational Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist who provide advice and referral as needed.
Extra curricular |
---|
Students can go to the learning support base at break and lunchtimes which is quieter and where there is adult supervision and a range of activities including games and craft activities. We also have a wide range of extra curricular clubs at lunchtime and after school including DT/STEM club, trampolining, football, graphic novels. Homework clubs are run by the learning support team after school every day.
The SEND information report outlines our provision for SEND in more detail and how we adapt the curriculum and implement our SEND policy on a day to day basis.
